“The praying mantis in general can be seen as the femme fatale of the insect world, in which the females proceed in sexual cannibalism of eating the male counterpart after sex. Moreover I admire their alienesque aesthetic and the combination of gracefulness and danger.

Specifically the orchid mantis is extremely fascinating by using aggressive mimicry of imitating orchid flowers to hunt their pray.

They are deathly beautiful creatures.”

Jan Fleischer (a queer visual artist, born 1993 in Hannover, Germany) works with interdisciplinary media and the drag persona itchi on creating post-human figures and cybernetic worlds combining nature and technology.
The process of transformation is of high process, and can be seen in creatures like aliens, cyborgs, mutants, etc. as they function as a form of overcoming the human body. Mimicry, the imitation of nature, is visually an important factor to most works.

Jan is also part of a newly started queer collective called mantis, which is focusing on visual and performance art.
